St Peter’s Church receives 72% of its annual income through the generosity and support of those who attend the various Church services. Most of the remainder comes from wedding and funeral fees and from the Patronal Festival Weekend.
The church building dates from the 12th century, and a quarter of our income is spent on the daily running costs and direct upkeep of the church itself. A further proportion goes in payment to the Diocese, and is known as the Parish Share. This payment is then allocated to cover the church’s central support services, the stipend of the Priest-in-Charge and housing costs, and helps support parishes financially less fortunate than our own. In addition, we have also committed ourselves to donate 5% of our income to charities chosen annually.
You may be surprised to know that in order to meet all of its financial commitments, St Peter’s needs to raise a total of £2,750 per week
We as a church are therefore very grateful for the giving we receive, without which we could not continue.
If you would like to help support St Peter’s, there are various ways in which you can do so. However, if you are a UK taxpayer, please be aware that any donation you make is worth much more if you use Gift Aid.
Gift Aid is a simple initiative which allows you to decide where the tax on your donation goes. With it, each one pound you donate is worth an additional twenty-five pence. To demonstrate the value of this benefit: in 2013 St Peter’s received £9,200 in collections which were not Gift Aided. If this money had been given with Gift Aid (assuming it was all donated by taxpayers), it would have been worth £2,300 more, at no additional cost to the givers.
Any money given in a collection can be made with Gift Aid by using one of the envelopes at the end of the pews. However, in today’s world, the most effective way you can support our church, regardless of the size of donation, is via a regular monthly contribution, ideally through your bank account, utilizing Gift Aid. This is known as Planned Giving. If you feel that you would like to support St Peter’s in this way, you can contact our Parish Giving Officer, Neil Hornsby, on 01277 224922. Neil will be able to answer any further questions you may have, and provide assistance in setting up your donation.
Alternatively you will find at the rear of the church, small packs for the Parish Giving Scheme which contain the forms for setting up a regular payment. Please return the completed paperwork to the address given.
You might like to know that any contribution you make via Planned Giving will be completely confidential to our small finance team. Also, the amount you donate can be varied at any time to suit your circumstances, and your contribution will last only as long as you want it to.
