The Browne & Wingrave Almshouse Charities are a registered Charity which provides low cost housing to elderly people who are in need. If you would like to make a donation to the Charity, please make your cheque payable to \u2018The Browne & Wingrave Almshouse Charities\u201d and send it to the address shown on the \u2018How to apply\u2019 page.<\/p>\n

What is Gift Aid?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gift Aid allows charities to claim back 25% on every donation from individuals who are eligible to claim gift aid. In addition, a transitional relief of 3.2% will be repaid to charities for donations made between 6th April 2007 to 5th April 2011. Therefore Gift Aid allows charities to reclaim effectively a total of 28.2%. When you donate via Gift Aid you must provide your full name, home address including postcode and confirm you wish for Gift Aid to be reclaimed on your donation. The charity then passes this information onto HMRC for the purposes of reclaiming back the tax on behalf of the charity.<\/p>\n

All donors, who are UK taxpayers, can make a declaration that makes them eligible for Gift Aid reclaims. To apply for Gift Aid you must pay an amount of Income Tax and\/or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that the charity reclaims on your donation in the appropriate tax year. You can only make a Gift Aid declaration on your own money. You cannot make a declaration on behalf of someone else or on behalf of a company.<\/p>\n

Remembering the Charity in your will<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

By making a bequest, you can help the Charity to carry on with the works that Anthony Browne started with his bequest over 400 years ago. If you would like to leave a bequest to the charity, we would first suggest contacting a solicitor for advice on drawing up your will and to help you to choose the appropriate wording for your Will, or for a Codicil to be added to an existing Will.\u00a0 The main types of Legacy are:<\/p>\n

A pecuniary legacy<\/b>, a stated sum of money, this can be simple and tax efficient.<\/p>\n
