South Weald Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2024 and is a highlight of village life. It began as a church flower festival to celebrate St Peter’s Day on June 29th, and has grown to encompass events throughout the village and beyond. It still centres on the weekend closest to the end of June, but now runs for most of a week and attracts some 3,000 visitors to activities ranging through concerts, fun run, golf day, art exhibition, school fete and more. In 2023, £15,000 was raised for much needed funding shared between the church and the school.  The church remains at the centre of events, hosting refreshments, live music and displays of flowers based on the theme for the year.
