The choir’s job is to lead and enhance the worship of the whole congregation of the church during services. We do this by leading the singing of the hymns and other sung parts of the service, and also by singing an anthem each week.
The choir sings at two services on a Sunday: the Family Communion service at 9.45am and Evensong at 6.30pm (4.30pm during the period of GMT). All choristers sing at the morning service. Those who wish to do so also sing at Evensong. We also sing for a few extra services a year.
The choir has just over 30 singers, spanning an age range from 7 to 77! The children are a vitally important part of the choir. They take full part in the Sunday morning service and receive musical training towards the Voice for Life award scheme. Each summer they go on an outing to the seaside, which is greatly enjoyed by all concerned.
We practise once a week on Friday evenings: the children practise from 6.15pm to 8pm, and the adults practise from 7.30pm to 9pm.
There is also an augmented choir – about once a month, augmented choir members join with the rest of the choir to sing the anthem at the 9.45am service. We rehearse the previous Friday (sometimes the previous two Fridays). Please click below for dates.
Instrumentalists of around grade 3 standard and above would be very welcome to play in the band which accompanies Keys Communion services. Please click below for dates.
New recruits are always very welcome
