Sunday, 4th May 2024, Sixth Sunday of Easter

Subject to the usual legal formalities we are delighted to announce that Rev Justin Hutcherson, currently vicar of St James church in Clacton has accepted the offer from the Bishop of Bradwell to be our new parish priest, Vicar of St Peter’s and Priest in Charge of St George’s.  Justin is hoping to move with his family in the Summer and we expect the formal licensing to take place at the beginning of September.   Please pray for Justin and for both churches as we make preparations for his arrival.

‘Eco-Art Exhibition- Friday 10th May. 3:15pm St Peter’s School Hall. The Eco-Committee are hosting an art exhibition in the school hall on Friday 10th May at 3:15pm.  The children have been busy creating artwork, including pictures, paintings and sculptures to show climate change and impact that it has on our environment.   You are very welcome to attend and see what the children have created.  There will be a donation bucket in the hall as we hope to raise some funds for eco projects such as buying plant pots for our newly acquired class plants and seeds for the garden.  We would also like to fund our next Green Flag, which we hope to renew this July.’

Choral Evensong at St Mary’s Shenfield today at 6.30pm (Deanery Choirs Festival).  This evening, our own choir will be joining forces with choirs from other churches in the deanery for a special service of Choral Evensong at St Mary’s Shenfield. Do come along and enjoy this beautiful and uplifting service.

Please put this date in your calendar,  Pentecoste Sunday Bring and Share on Sunday 19th May 12-2pm. We would like you to bring a dish of your heritage to share, either savoury or sweet. In May please sign up so we know numbers.

St Peter’s Walkers. On Tuesday 21st May we will be visiting London again and walking through the Royal Parks, from Kensington Palace Gardens to St James Park – about 6 km.  We will meet at 10.45 at Pret a Manger, 7-9 Queensway, and conclude with lunch at a venue yet to be decided.  Please sign the list at the back of church if you would like to join us or speak to Sheila Hornsby for more information (07814 303194).

St Peter’s Quiet Day will take place Saturday 8th June at Diocesan Retreat House at Pleshey, led by The Venerable David Lowman, formally Archdeacon of Chelmsford, now retired.  He has given us a lot of help during the interregnum and during the building of the Belli Centre.  A signing list is now available at the back of the church.

Calling all gardeners – when you are planting some seeds or splitting plants, could you save some for the church’s plant stall at our Patronal Festival at the end of June?

We are looking for more sidespeople to join our team for the 8.00 and 9.30 am Sunday services. Teams of two for the 8.00 and three for the 9.30 are on duty about every 6-8 weeks and their duties are to welcome and direct the congregation, give out/take back service books, count the collection, etc.  If this is something you might be interested in, call Michael Bitschiné (229313) or speak to a sidesperson for more information.

ECO-TIP: Wash your car using a bucket and sponge rather than a hose to reduce the amount of water you use. Some commercial car washes will use water efficiently but check first.
